Yagi-Uda Antenna

OBJECTIVE: To receive local radio, television and conversations from air traffic control tower in the airport.

DESCRIPTION: As a part of making space and satellite curriculum for Karkhana classes, I built a Yagi-Uda antenna which can receive signals from local radio, television and conversations from Tribhuvan International Airport. The dimensions of antenna elements define the frequency of signals which can be received. The antenna is made with low-cost materials like aluminum pipes and soldering wires for TV jack. The antenna is connected to a software-defined radio (SDR) which contains a USB to connect with the computer and receive signals.

IMPLEMENTATION: I designed an eight-week curriculum to teach how to make different DIY ( Do It Yourself) antennas to receive signals from different satellites. Students learn different communication techniques from Morse code to satellite communication. I delivered this curriculum to middle school students and graduate school girls from different socio-economic backgrounds in Nepal.
